The streets were packed with people, The skyscrapers stood tall, It was a normal day New York believed that that was all.
The sun was shining brightly, Business was going swell, My shop was pretty busy, Our stock was selling well.
But then at once was darkness, My customers looked round, Blank expressions on our faces, No one dared make a sound.
And then we heard a plane Rumbling up above, We saw a shadow on the ground Like one of a great dove.
First there was a crash, A piercing roar, some painful screams, Then there was a crash, Something was wrong, I couldn't see.
Then my friend and colleague Mrs. Phillips rushed right through. She let the door bang loudly, "Boss, I really need to see you!"
And then there was another Explosion and loud crash. I was so very startled That I nearly missed the flash.
A giant flash, a blinding flash, I decided to go out And then I was surprised- All I could hear were screams and shouts.
I stopped a man and asked, "What's just happened over there?" He said, "Go home and save yourself, Tell that lot over there!"
He pointed to my shop, So I rushed in and I explained, We all ran home, I didn't know America would be pained.
When I got home I sat down fast And switched on the TV, On every single channel The Twin Towers I could see.
I watched the plane, I watched the crash, I watched the fire spread And that night I just couldn't sleep I lay there in my bed.
That tragedy, it scarred the world, Those planes from up above. Celebrities, they tried to help They shared our pain and love.
But our great country didn't stop Campaigning for an end To terrorism and all bad, We wanted to be friends.
But we all know we'll stick together, Who cares about the hate? America will always be The One, United States.Note... I would just like to say that this poem is fictional and I created the narrator of the poem. It's not based on anyone in real life. |
