Jimmie's Rifle |
|
|
His eyes
were wide open
... his hands clenched
tight
upon a spent rifle
And
his young face was
so dirty
dirty with war
Silent
dead
and cold
Jimmy was just
... gone
His eyes
... his ... eyes
just gone.
Seems
a very
long damn
time
ago
bro.
I am
old
Yet
remembering
A war within
my youth
And rifles
Dark... and damp...
dead
rifles, and
... young men
Suddenly
silent.
I am restless
... awake again
at midnight
seeing your face
Jimmie!
... your rifle
Your eyes.
... and the enemy
lying in front of you
... in the morning of your eyes
... when the sun
did rise. |
