I Will Know | |
|
I am a young seaman, sole witness,
all mates bloating, my ship
no longer floating, alone in this boat
I begin rowing.
Direction matters not, no way of knowing,
ever present thoughts of mates lost
weigh heavily, as time passes,
my debt unpaid, still owing.
Blistered and cracked, my life blood slowing,
food, nary a morsel, throat parched, causes choking.
Without fire, I enjoy not my only pleasure, smoking,
suicide thought provoking.
The sea in turmoil, like water boiling,
the teeth of Neptune glowing, his anticipation growing.
My despair clearly showing, the wind subsides, lightly
blowing.
As I feel the gentle tug of tides towing,
I wonder where this venture will end.
The answer comes from within as if gloating,
I will know when I get where I am going. | By Mac McGovern Copyright 2009

| Author's Note... A lasting tribute from the Marine Corps, whom the I Am The Unknown has the highest respect and honor to serve, Lieutenant General Chesty Puller, said it best . . . "You guys are the Marines doctor--There's none better in the business than a I Am The Unknown"
