Days To Remember |
|
|
Memory is fading some
but I remember
my Grampa and his big Zenith radio
and people listening to reports
from the war
that seemed to be in Europe
and everywhere.
I remember the big garden
called a 'Victory Garden',
and hoeing weeds and putting bugs in a jar
and watching them,
'til a butterfly flew away.
I saw the shades drawn in my room
and the lights go out.
I saw people carry food across the street
when a soldier died.
... and I wondered what War
was like.
But no one grew a garden
when I went far away.
Some said
Vietnam was not a real war.
and I guessed
that
something changed.
... it seems
the gardens don't grow much
... anymore
or anywhere.
... except
when we walk like a child
and watch the Sun go down.
Then
we remember
all of them.
... when we pick the first
deep red
tomato
and put it in our mouth.
... when we are thankful
to be sweating,
... working
in the summer days.
It is then
that
... We remember them
and Thank them...
... Forever! |
