Yesterday's Soldier |
|
|
God I pray for that soldier decades ago,
That soldier lay dying wondering who'd know.
Generations later I see him there,
And I know he is wondering who'd care.
That soldier lay dying on the frozen ground,
Thinking not a trace would ever be found.
That soldier lay dying under the jungle canopy,
I don't know his name but God...Oh God I know he was fighting
for me.
Just one of millions that would even dare,
That soldier lay dying with that blank stare.
Knowing in moments he'd be gone from here,
Please God tell him I know, I care, and feel his fear.
That soldier lay dying in the desert sand,
The last drops of blood dripping from his hand.
All these years later I hear his plea,
That soldier lay dying on a raft in the sea.
That one day I would know what he did for me,
Please God tell him I know and I see.
That soldier lay dying in a tunnel under ground,
Planes overhead, he can't hear a sound.
Struggling to take his very last breath,
Oh God bring peace with this soldier's death.
Tell him I know, I saw him, I care,
That soldier lay dead right over there. |
