Womanly Warriors | |
|
Raised as princesses with manners refined,
We encouraged you daily to use your own mind.
But life's options for you were often constrained,
For reasons "they" never satisfactorily explained.
Since the Revolution you've been in the ranks,
Sometimes in secret, and often without thanks.
But patriotism isn't reserved just for the men;
As proven by women time and again.
Your reasons for joining are as varied as you,
But America is proud of all that you do.
Being a womanly warrior is a lonely road,
As you struggle to juggle an impossible load.
Your nurturing instincts can't be denied,
No matter how hard or often it's tried.
Deployments from family are difficult for you,
For you know no one else can do what you do.
The transition complete, you carry two faces,
One for family, the other for dangerous places.
Your tenderness and love as mother and wife,
Are replaced with a hardness for periods of strife.
Though men are expected to be rough and tough,
A woman meeting the challenge is never enough.
True womanly warriors protect their good name,
For they understand fully that this is no game.
Two million veterans strong from every conflict,
The value of contributions impossible to predict.
With love AND respect that few women attain,
"Ambassador of Freedom", is attached to your name.
It's a fine line you walk, in the service to mankind,
And a comparable reward is impossible to find.
Womanly warriors not all females can be,
But you can be proud of what we all see. | By John Belles
