The White Cliffs of Dover country as flag
Back in World War Two
we use to sing a song
about blue birds
which would return
to the White Cliffs of Dover
when WWII was over.
It was a song which spoke
of Freedom forever;
when lovers could meet again,
raise a family
when the world was free.

That was some sixty years
ago
and the world is not
free.
The sons and daughters
whom we raised
have known war-torn
days
in Korea, Vietnam,
Iraq,
and Afghanistan.

They have bled and
died
for sweet Freedom
and the world is sick
awaiting those
bluebirds,
of which we sang.
Where are the bluebirds?
Where is the peace
of which we
sang?

When the world says
"Peace and Safety"
the blue birds
fly away
for they know the sounds
of war.
As I had a cup of coffee
at midnight
I thought about those
blue birds
and the White Cliffs of
Dover
when WWII was
over.

Can you tell me where the
blue birds have
gone?
Where is that "peace
forever after?"
If we sing that song
again
maybe the blue birds
will return
from wherever it is
that they have
gone!

I feel sorry for the war
soldiers
and for the blue birds
which must fly
in a world gone crazy
where the word
Freedom
is an empty shell
and where this cruel
world
is on its way to
Hell!

Blue birds, you are
welcome
to visit me at my
home
where you will be fed
and watered
and where you'll
hear
the sweet word
Freedom
from an old veteran
who shall slip the bonds
of Earth
to find eternal Freedom
on Heaven's shore
where war shall be heard
no more!
