The Unwelcome Home |

We came home by the thousands
Most of us aged many years ahead of our time
Thinking of those who would not come home with us
We came home only to hear that we were not welcome
We came home from a war
We returned from a war that was pure hell
Only to be treated like the dirt we left behind
We returned not as heroes, but as baby killers
Only to be forgotten by our own countrymen
We came home from a war
We went to war in a place none of us really knew
Some place called Vietnam nothing but an ugly jungle
We heard from our political leaders that we were wrong
We went to a war in Asia, someplace called Vietnam
Where we learned the hard way that this was an uncommon war
Yes, we came back from a war; and to what, I ask? |
