To My Heroes |
|
|
No!
It is I
who am filled to the brim...
with warm thanks for you
and every Veteran
for putting your lives on the line,
day-in, day-out, hour-by-hour,
minute-by-minute, second-by-second,
bullet-after-whizzing bullet,
in-and-out-of-foxholes,
in-and-out-of-choppers,
in-and-out-of-scorching heat
in-and-out-of-monsoon rains
in-and-out-of-hunger and thirst
in-and-out-of-blood-soaked mud
in-and-out-of-pain
in-and-out-of-sanity.
No!
It is I
who am grateful for you...
the soldier-come-home-again,
only to endure the agony
of our verbal onslaughts,
our failure to recognize
God's blessings bestowed
on this then-undeserving nation
No!
It is I
who am inspired
by your courage
by your loyalty
by your integrity
by your strength
by your endurance
by your purity
by your honesty
by your fortitude
and by your love...
Love of country
love of family
love of freedom
love of peace
and love of God
No!
It is I
who thanks YOU! |
