To Honor Our Veterans |
| The assassination of the archduke led to the war The peace between the countries lasted no more.
Men ages 18-34 were forced to enter the draft. To me, that sounds completely daft.
Their inspiration led me to say, "Our veterans should be honored every day."
They were brave and courageous with hearts of gold, On the battlefield they were strong and bold.
Subs, tanks, and machine guns were firing away, Protecting their country night and day.
The war-to-end-wars was not yet through. Going to war was senseless from my point of view.
We formed the League of Nations, which had no effect. Lots of things were still being wrecked.
Their mission was to keep the world full of peace, but the death toll continued to increase.
On November 11 of 1918, Their hard work and dedication was clearly seen.
It was Armistice Day and they signed the treaty. Thanks to veterans for helping us when we were needy. | James 6th Grade Copyright 2005 Listed 10/05/2006Poem "recognized for creative excellence" by School District of Lee County, Ft. Myers, FL |
