The Death of
A Young Man |
|
|
There was a death the other day
One death among hundreds where they lay
He lay close to death in a muddy jungle floor
Caused by an enemy land mine close to him
Missing one leg and in shock he was unable to stop the
bleeding
He would soon die there not alone but among many
He would have been twenty-one in forty eight hours
Was suppose to return home in thirty days
He lay not alone but among others, some will live, most will
die
Cries from other wounded echoed through the jungle that
morning
Only with others like him, in a land he did not know existed
Until he arrived eleven months ago
As his eyes began to glaze over his thoughts were of his
mother
Who now will mourn her son's death every day
For her to bear the loss alone, as she was a widow once
before
Now she had two of her men die in wars so far from home
Soon his body started to get cold
He starts to shake and soon he lies still
His lifeless eyes stared at the skies above
His last thoughts were of Heaven, as he had already been
through Hell |
