First time I've returned The small farming town I
graduated from
It's changed As have I
A
suburb now Commuters hurry about Horns blast
It's changed As have I
Aided by my cane Knee
braces concealed I enter the old gym
It's changed
As have I
The old record board My name's gone
Pop's 56 yard field goal there
It's changed As
have I
There's the geek How'd he marry that beauty
He made it big in the 80s
He's changed As have I
I once ruled this school The streetwise warrior
From the big city
That's changed As have I
The homecoming queen Far above me back then Stops to
say high
She's changed As have I
Back then
we all wanted to leave See the world, experience life:
I went the farthest, saw the most
We've changed As
have I
The football jock Went to college nearby
Came back to coach
He's changed As have I
The girl I had a crush on Never had the nerve to approach
Entered glowing like back then
She hasn't changed
As have I
She walked over, the walk of a mother
"You of all of us, did what you said" "Thank you"
She's changed As have I
The reprinted yearbook
said She was going to Hollywood I was going in the
Army protect the free
She's changed Have I?
In my heart, if I could I'd still be doing my part;
Defending the free. |
