Second Chance |
|
|
Looking down from the heavens stars,
looking through falling memories.
One by one, like tears they fall;
on the earth's dirt they lay
The sun sleeps and night dims the sky.
Sadness sets in from where I've been.
One man with way too many sins,
cursed to die in a foreign land
What would I give for a second chance...
... just to come back
... to make it right
... with my kids and my wife
... to the life we once had?
What would I give for a second chance...
... to come back
... to hold my wife in my arms again
... to play football with my little son and his friends
... to come to my daughter's tea party with her dolls?
What would I give for a second chance...
... to kiss my wife's tender lips
... to touch her smooth ivory skin
... to lay next to her gentle warmth again?
What would I give for a second chance...
... to escape this madness, I signed up for
... to not have to wear this uniform
... to liberate those who hate us most -
those that caused me to become this ghost?
What would I give for a second chance...
... just to start all over again
... to be without hate for those who took my life
... with those who took me from my kids and my wife -
my enemies who stole my last breath?
What would I give for a second chance?
Would I give the stripes on my sleeve?
Would I give my Paratroopers Wings?
Would I give up my country's dreams
of Freedom for my wife and my kids?
What would I give for a second chance...
... to breath earth's air
... one more time again
... to leave Iraq
... to leave these desert people in this forsaken land?
What would I give for a second chance?
Would I give up this uniform?
Would I give up my American way of life?
Would I surrender my colors of Red, White and Blue?
Would I give this all up to draw one more breath?
What would I give for a second chance?
NOTHING!
I wore this uniform proudly to my death.
My colors are now my blanket
that keeps me warm in heaven.
My memories are what keeps
this old Soldier alive.
They give me hope in heaven
that one day I will see my family again;
we will hold each other love 'til then
What would I give for a second chance?
Nothing!
I wore this uniform to my grave
and as I walked up to the pearly gates.
My brothers were there to welcome me in
What would I give for a second chance?
What would you give for Freedom?
What price would you pay?
In the end what would you give?
What would you give for a second chance? |
