Project Crossroads |
|
|
Fifty-six years ago
In the distant past,
The 509th came to Kwaj
To create an atomic blast!
In Bikini Lagoon
Many ships were seen,
Such as the Mighty Saratoga
And the German Prinz Eugene.
Gathered from many places
Were technicians of many races;
From Roswell Air Base they came,
With the mighty B-29 plane.
Project Crossroads, it was called;
A bit of history known to all;
The brightest light known to Earth,
Since in Genesis, God gave her birth!
The Air Photo Unit was there
With lab and camera techs galore,
Including PFC Mel Foley,
Historian, as it were, and more.
For he has searched and found
Scores of once young soldiers,
And some who've expired,
And others who are now much older.
Those days, long since past,
Have left memories which will last;
Until time has run her course
With the 509th Army Air Force. |
