The Old Veteran |
|
|
I had four days at home
one moment
one week
A lifetime
when I left.
I carried my bag
and walked down the old road
from home.
Dust
... and a sky so very
blue.
I could see the angels
... hidden
and a man standing
quietly beside a new black highway,
... an old man
a quiet man
Ray J.
WWII... the Battle of the Bulge!
I remember the depth of his words
... his heart
in a handshake
and the reflection of his tears,
... the blue of his eyes.
"Good Luck, Soldier"... he said.
"I will see ya home!"
and he walked slowly away.
I loved!
He died!
It was the year
1965. |
