Old Pages |
|
|
I'm a relic of the past,
very tired and worn;
just an old WWII book
from which a page is torn.
But the page was lived
when our Freedom
was challenged
by The Rising Sun!
We showed them
a thing or two,
of what fighting
Americans could do.
Strewn across the Pacific Sea
are bones of men,
who died to set us free,
bringing war to an end!
Yes, the page is torn
from that book of long ago,
but remembered are
the dead Marines at Iwo.
Seven thousand died,
and 13,000 wounded there,
who turned black sand red
with the blood they shed.
I shall never forget
the price which they paid;
nor the bloody black sand
in which they were laid!
Iwo Jima is a sacred place,
and if one is very still
the groanings of the dying,
another page will fill!
Some pages are
better not read,
if, in so doing,
we honor not the dead! |
