Hymn Of The Soldiers | | It is raining bullets in Iraq, snipers firing from dark places, bombs hidden in doorways, hidden in the tailpipes of cars. We are burning up in the heat; yet shivering in the day and night from our deepest anguish. We know the importance of keeping this land free from tyranny, keeping our homeland free and safe. We weep...so deep within our hearts and our souls for our comrades who have fallen... the hunted by the hunters.
But, when it is raining bullets, when bombs have fragmented our peace and our dreams of growth for this land of new birth, we are burned up with the desire to see the tranquil shores of home, the beloved faces of those we love. We know the reality of sacrifice; for we give freedom meaning with our lives...even with our fears. We offer up the brave, young and the steadiness of the bold for the banner of a free flag waving over "the purple mountain's majesty." And, we serve our Nation with pride. | Sharon Flynn Copyright 2003 |
