The Final Goodbye |
| A black suit to replace your green uniform As you lie on the satin bed of endless sleep No longer stalking through jungles In search of your next victim No longer crouching your body To be concealed from the predator
Tears flow like blood on the battlefield And the scent of blossoms suffocates As much as the putrid stench of corpses We are gathered here today Unwilling, yet accepting your demise
Our silence is all we can offer No words can compare, can describe Your sacrifice, your gift to us A nameless contributor Lost to the world, until you leave In search of your destination | Delma 10th Grade Copyright 2006 Listed 11/14/2006Poem "recognized for creative excellence" by School District of Lee County, Ft.
