Beneath Tall Pines and A Blue Sky |
|
|
Darkness moves slowly upon time
sleeping past midnight
as silent soldiers move
toward dawn
within a dark
canopy
... and then
... Contact!
Madness and a firefight!
Oh' God!... the edge is all I have!
a life and death edge!
... and I am falling again
into the choking fear...
dark corner of the dead!
... yet I am not afraid.
I am One with all that is free!
I am a Son of liberty
rushing
toward life... again!
But I am sure... very sure
that I died
then
... so long ago.
Saw my body
far away...
silent...
drifting toward the sky.
I am now
silver...
getting old.
Rebel Grey,
and harsh spoken.
Just an old soldier getting older
and older
each day... while lighting fires in darkness
...praying!
and beckoning the bright gold of dawn
that pays
for each and every moment
of the day.
I say... to God,
that I carried them here!
The dead...
wounded... the silent
and the very brave
soldiers...
all piled into memory...
... yet all home
now.
All of us
the same
... none were left behind!
Some
upon the Wall of heroes...
some upon the walkway.
Some who cannot walk at all!
Each
given to others
as Brothers
Just Boys who died
for one another...
... and now Lord Jesus
I think of You!
alone
... suffering for all of Love
upon a Cross!
Dying
for us all. |
