A WWII Vet Looks Back |
|
|
He was just a youth
when war raised its head...
some sixty years ago
and now his youth is dead...
His young days were lost
In the islands of the sea...
where memories of war
replaced the youth in me...
Now life is a battle
some days I win...
some days I lose
none of which I choose...
Half of me
wants to walk away...
half of me
bids me stay...
When you see a simple home
it may appear empty there...
but often residing within
is an old vet in a wheel chair...
No longer can he bathe himself
or put his socks on his feet...
he depends upon another
to bathe and keep him neat...
He can't keep track
of prescripts he must take...
of capsules, pills, and shots
even though he's awake...
So America, I ask you
to take a look at me...
just an old WWII vet
who came back with PTSD... |
