A Father's Son,
A Country's Soldier |
|
|
Now I understand war
and how I lost my son
now I understand life
and the burden of regret
and not telling him enough
how much I loved him
and how I cried
the first time I saw him walk.
I loved my son
from the very first time he opened his eyes.
I loved my son
the day I put him to rest
and when they dressed him in his beloved flag
in red, white and blue.
And I still remember the day
when they told me how he died.
I can not describe to you all those feelings a father felt
only to say his honour was worth every tear.
I told them a father could not have been more proud
and when they gave me the flag.
These are tears of patriotism I cried
and not hate in my eyes.
My son loved his country
and he served me and his country proud! |
