| Liberty (per Webster's) - The condition of being free and independent - Freedom
Freedom - a Condition? What condition is it that brings forth Freedom? Is it weathered with time like shingles atop an old farmhouse?
Is it bent into a twisted tangled mass of bark and branches like a mighty oak still standing after a ferocious storm, or is it like torn shredded newspaper tossed across city streets in inclement weather?
Or is it a state of mind? A state of being as it is perceived to be unburdened, unencumbered, uninhibited, and boundless in joy and exhilaration, a Celebration of Life?
Freedom - at what Cost? Is the cost of Freedom found in the vast number of lives sacrificed by men and women who when duty calls to defend our nation forsake family and familiarity?
At what cost do these brave souls extend their loyalty and strength for the sake of Preservation of all that we hold dear that we each may sleep more soundly and feel more secure as we explore more deeply the mysteries and beauty of life.
Liberty, we salute you as we realize that Freedom is not "free", but rather Freedom is the result of selfless devotion, duty, honor and love for our Heritage, our Hope, our Dreams and our Future. | By Sandi Pritchard Copyright 2006 Listed December 4, 2006 |
