I Am An American | |
| An American I'm proud to be, and proud of this mighty land, With history rich in freedom's fight, a heritage most grand. Our fathers fought and bled and died to preserve this land for me, Now is the time form me to be a defender of liberty
Our land is torn with trouble and strife, we're fighting from within I'm afraid we're slipping from the goal our forefathers began Where is the love and brotherhood that made our nation great We must fight to defend ourselves, before it is too late
Enemies of freedom o'er the world are watching us with glee If we follow where they will lead, their prisoners we'll be They'll never have to fight a war to beat the USA If we don't stop our quarrels now, the debt we'll have to pay.
Stand and be counted, one and all, let freedom rule your mind Forget the ancient bigotry and hate and peace of mind you'll find Our land is great because it's free, black, yellow, white and all Don't make a mockery of our land by answering tyranny's call
Defend our precious heritage, stand firm, endure the test Clasp hands and make our union strong, there is no time for rest Fight hard the evils on all sides who try to sway your thoughts For when we've freed the world for all, a noble war we've fought.
"Dear God, give us the strength and will to overcome this plight May we let love and fellowship be still our guiding light. Make us know that love's the thing, that will keep our country free And dear God, help to make us all, Defenders of Liberty." | By Paul Cothran Copyright 1965 Listed 3/16/2006 |
