Men Of American History | |
|
Who are these men, of whom we know and venerate?
These men, whom we place above reproach, we know their names
from what they did, from how they led, these men of history
whose names live again and again, whose deeds are retold and
never get old.
These men of leisure, who would bow to no
king, declared independence and fought instead, men of
high value, took a fledgling colonization, to a new world
nation.
They framed a constitution, hung it straight
at level eye for all to study and agree, a conglomeration of
peoples, whose faces change, yet, names remain the same,
these are the men of whom, we know and venerate.
They
are the men who had no fear, who laid down their lives for a
nation to survive, these names harbor no mystery, these
are the men of American history. | By Mac McGovern Copyright 2005

Authors Note:
I have not forgotten the women who gave their support, sacrificed so much, and attributed greatly to defining patriotism. These women who were the foundation, allowing their men, to form a constitution.
