Johnny Cash |

It all changed for him
long ago.
... 1967
... in a war called Vietnam.
He sang,
he entertained,
and then he came home
in tears...
and I chatted with him in the time
before he died.
He was kind,
and he reached out.
He was Johnny Cash.
I thanked him and wrote this
for him.
'Your music is a song that is always from the heart.
Johnny! Nothing fails that is born in art.
You went to Nam as one of us,
and you came home in memory of all of us.
Carry on, old Soldier of tunes and melody!
Carry on,
till all of us go home.' |
