Here comes the bride With that special sparkle in her eye. She vows to love and understand, Everything special about this man.
Whatever his dreams may be She will stand beside him for eternity. She knows he's sworn to defend The freedoms of our citizens.
But how could she grasp at the time How his love of country would change her life. From those two precious words "I do" To time and time again "I'll miss you."
Her home would not have a white picket fence Or family nearby for holiday picnics. It would be wherever his orders sent them, And in three short years, change again.
She would be the one to explain Why daddy was gone again today. She would hold her head high and fight the tears Despite her overwhelming fears.
Her lips could feel a parting kiss For months until her hand again held his. At night she would drop to her knees And pray with a passion for world peace.
At times she felt their marriage wouldn't survive And would wish he'd leave this duty behind But then she would gaze into his eyes And remember the cause for which he fights.
Now, twenty years later in her life In spite of years of sacrifice She gladly lays down her bouquet And raises the American flag each day.
She stops and relaxes in his embrace Thankful God always kept him safe. She is so proud that he chose to defend And would be honored to do it all again.
The National Anthem should have been their song And played at their wedding all evening long. For when she said "I do" to him, She had married a military man. |
