Grandfather... In Spirit |
|
|
When the shades of his house
were pulled against the night
He would calm my fright.
We would listen to his big Zenith radio
... and learn about the War.
It was 1944.
He would tell me of all races
of all peoples,
and how they would always come
to the shores of this land.
America was freedom.
... and so it is.
... and he would hold my small hand
and tell me of Freedom for
All!
He told me I was of two
of four peoples
who were scattered around the Earth,
and that some day
I would know
that All are One.
... and then he would go quietly
to sleep,
and I would move from his lap
to the floor
thinking...
.... to myself,
thinking,
... of how much I loved him,
... and all the long days at work
when I missed him.
... and the time he never gave to himself,
but gave to others.
The way he held my Grandmother in his arms.
All,
that
he had done,
before that War was won |
