For A Daughter |
|
A soldier leans over his hurt
friend
wincing in agony,
but telling him to keep going.
Yet he can't.
Exhaustion sweeps over him
like a big, black blanket,
sending him back to his last goodbyes
with his family.
He can picture his daughter's vanilla
white skin
clutching his neck, not letting go.
His vacant hazel eyes look down
at his dusty green uniform,
imagining the cold, wet tear stains
his daughter left with him.
The smell of her skin lingers
through his senses,
and for the first time in two years,
he feels whole.
He feels energy, he feels invincible.
He fights for freedom
He fights for her. |
