A Child's Christmas Letter | |
| A child sat down to write a Christmas letter- One to Santa or however a wish can come true. He started with a Dear Santa As the tears began to fall. In his little heart The wish was so simple-- How would it measure Against all the other girls and boys? Would Santa hear his plea Just this once- Not for that toy or game Nor a ball or fame? All he wished for On that cold, magical night Was for his daddy's return. The one wish filled With smells of cologne And sweet aftershave; With sounds of resonance As he called his name; With handshakes and hugs Shared between men; With that final tuck-in At each day's end. So Dear Santa, Can you make this one wish come true Not just for one boy or girl But for the many On this cold Christmas day? | Dedicated to all the children during the holiday season whose parent(s) are serving abroad. It is a poem that sums up the simple yet complex desire and emotions of children as they face this difficult holiday season without their parents and loved ones. | By Odessa Maxwell Copyright 2006 http://www.myspace.com/OMaxwell Listed 12/18/2006 |
