On Independence Day we celebrate
Our Independence Day,
The day we won our freedom,
And became the U. S. A.
The victory was bitter sweet,
For many lost their lives,
Defending our sweet liberty,
So husbands and their wives,
And families could unite again,
And live in a land that's free,
Free from chains of bondage,
And free from tyranny.
Our Founding Fathers wanted
This land to be a place
Where states could be united,
Through Heavenly Father's grace,
Where all who wanted freedom,
Could come from foreign shore,
And enjoy freedom and liberty,
And live in peace once more.
Twas on the 4th day of July
In 1776,
When that victory took place,
And today, America depicts
Fifty states united in
The cause of liberty,
And freedom from oppression,
Oh may it ever be
The United States of America,
The good old U. S. A.,
One nation under God,
Who wants it to be that way.
May God bless America,
From sea to shining sea,
And those who've fought to keep it thus,
A land of liberty. | By James H. Lee, Jr. Copyright 2011
