For Those Who Serve Today |
|
|
I am your flag.
I fly at half mast
when your heart cries.
I am burned
when hatred prevails.
I fly high
on days blest by children.
... days so breezy with goodness.
Lazy days
when you eat the tender
blossoms of the flower
of freedom.
Now,
I carry,
destroyed and in pieces,
the hopes and dreams
of 3000.
... the tears of families!
The wailing of small children.
The sobbing of your despair.
Young Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines!
I
am your symbol
tri-colored...
... windswept!
I dream the work
of liberty,
... the sacrifices,
and the death that is yours
in a time of war.
Without you
I shall fly
no more.
Without you,
freedom will be destroyed.
Paint your faces with victory!
Your souls with eternity!
Rage
as never before.
The unborn will bless
and remember
what you do. |
