Ashes On My Feet | |
| Where can we find the solace that our heart so longs to hold ? Where is the comfort for the night, when shadows seem so cold?
Where is the Hope that once was ours, when we had eyes to see? Some say they now lie broken at the feet of Liberty
Perhaps there lies in dormant sleep a taste of what we knew Before the darkness found our soul and left our dreams askew
We'll walk a grieving pathway through the darkness in the land And while we're searching for tomorrow , we'll be searching hand in hand
It's hard to know the journey that our feet now need to walk We can not see the road ahead, now strewn with steel and rock
The dust of towers fallen, drifting over littered shores Now haunt our shadowed pathway, where we've not walked before
We'll walk past dreams of yesterday, aglow with ash and fire And be drawn to pray a mourners prayer, beneath a crumpled spire
We'll walk in humbled silence past ten thousand golden stairs That have grown into the heavens on the wings of victims prayers
We'll pause to bow our heads a bit, when widows pass our way And we'll shed a tear of love for them, as they face another day
We'll pause to ask our God above, to shelter them from pain And give them strength and Hope and power, to face the sun again
I'll walk ahead and light the path through hallowed grounds beyond Where shrouded in uncertainty is strength to carry on
When burdens seem to beckon you to give up in defeat Then bring them here, I'll carry them... with ashes on my feet
And if you find your tears won't stop, and Hope is fading way Take one more look through misted eyes, at the lady in the bay
Her torch light is still burning as a beacon of our land And the Honor of her name still rests, in her sure and steady hand
With one accord our song we'll sing and end it with Amen When we shout into the heavens realms God Bless America... again | By Robert VanDerslice
