USO officials honored the only living Air Force Medal of Honor recipients at the
USO of Metropolitan New York's 48th Annual Armed Forces Gala and Gold Medal
Dinner Dec. 9, 2009 in New York City. The USO's Distinguished Service Award was
presented to Col. Leo K. Thorsness (from left), Col. Joe M. Jackson, Col. James
P. Fleming and Col. Bernard F. Fisher. Colonel George E. Day was also honored,
but was not at the present at the event. Army Gen. Raymond T. Odierno (far
right), the top U.S. commander in Iraq, assisted with the presentation, and also
received the USO's Distinguished Service Award.
