Double Amputee Piggybacks With Fellow Marine In Recon Challenge May 30, 2019
May 16, 2019 - Gunnery Sgt. Andrew Perryman, Dive project officer of Air and Amphibious Systems at Marine Corps Systems Command, carries wounded warrior, double amputee Staff Sgt. Jonathan Blank during the 11th annual Recon Challenge, at the Reconnaissance Training Company compound on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. Perryman, Blank and other Recon Marines competed in the challenge to honor comradery and brotherhood. Note... Sergeant Jonathan Blank was nearly killed on October 26, 2010 when a hidden improvised explosive device (IED) exploded beneath him during his unit's final mission in Afghanistan. It blew off his legs, tore up his intestines, punched a hole in his left elbow, and sustained a shrapnel wound to his head. He underwent numerous surgeries and months of rehabilitation.
