the Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony May 11, 2018 in Fort Walton
Beach, Fla. The ceremony was to honor fallen police officers from
the previous year by reading their names aloud. Security forces
Airmen from Eglin and Hurlburt Field attended and participated in
the event. The ceremony is one of many events taking place during

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which
designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in
which that date falls as Police Week, paying tribute to the local,
state, and federal peace officers who have died, or who have been
disabled, in the line of duty.
