March 25, 2017 - A monument on Mount Suribachi marks the exact spot that U.S. Marines raised the original American flag 72 years ago during the World War II battle for Iwo Jima (now called Iwo To). This monument stands as a memorial for all the Marines and Navy Corpsmen who fought so bitterly on this hallowed ground.
