Terrence O'Grady and family receive condolences from Marines during the burial ceremony of Brig. Gen. Margaret A. Brewer at Arlington National Cemetery, Va., Jan. 14, 2013. O'Grady was a close friend of Brewer for 30 years.

Brewer passed away Jan. 2 at the age of 82. In 1978, she became the first female Marine to be promoted to general officer.

"Brewer cleared the way for future female Marines throughout her career," said Gen. James F. Amos, commandant of the Marine Corps.
