MEC, Minimum Essential Chords, a band that started as a way to relieve stress – now play frequent performances for Forward Operating Base Union III residents.

The band consists of six members (Army Lt. Col. Bill Welch, Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Adam Yetter, Army Col. Wes Osburn, Air Force Capt. Carlos Jayme, Army Staff Sgt. William Allen, and Mike Wright), sound manager (Navy Chief Ray Dannemiller), and guest soloist (Barbara Jeffery).
