Marine Corps 235th Birthday

Marines march the ceremonial cake down the Commandants of the Marine Corps corridor during the cake cutting ceremony to celebrate the 235th United States Marine Corps birthday at the Pentagon, Nov. 8th, 2010. In 1952, the 20th commandant, Gen. Lemuel C. Shepherd Jr., formalized the cake-cutting ceremony. The first piece of cake must be presented to the oldest Marine present. The second piece goes to the youngest Marine.      Gen. James F. Amos, the 35th commandant of Marine Corps, cuts the ceremonial cake while the Secretary of the Navy, Ray Mabus, looks on, to celebrate the 235th United States Marine Corps birthday at the Pentagon, Nov. 8th, 2010.
