The quilt honors the memory of the American men and women who have lost their lives since 9/11 in Iraq and Afghanistan.
There are 50 squares on the quilt, each with a fallen hero, one from each state. Smith's son, killed in action in Al Anbar province, Iraq, Nov. 15, 2004, represents Indiana.
