While leading a patrol in northern Marjah, May 4, the Reidsville, N.C., native found himself just inches away from an improvised explosive device. In an instant, Ducote threw a fellow Marine in a ditch and out of harm's way, and without disregard for his own welfare, got back up, yelling to his Marines to fall back, when the IED exploded.
