awarded the Silver Star by
President George W. Bush
during the 82nd Abn. Div's
review on May 22 at Fort
Bragg, N.C. Strickland, a
native of Rowland, N.C.,
braved enemy fire May 29,
2007, rescuing the crew of
Flipper 75, which was shot
down by enemy fire in
Afghanistan.
Strickland
personally engaged the enemy
with multiple weapons
preventing the Taliban from
gaining possession of his
fellow Soldiers. He
maintained an exposed
position to secure the crash
site.
