DannyB (Daniel Barnes)Now's Our Time

Performed and Written by DannyB (Daniel Barnes)
Copyright 2011

"Now's Our Time" is a heartfelt original song that pays tribute to Vietnam Veterans.

"Being a Vietnam Veteran and returning to protesters and no welcome or a thanks for serving your country has always bothered me. Even the after I was home for a while, I was, as were other Vietnam Veterans, treated differently. When Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day being March 30 was just formally announced, I had to put a video together to go with this song which I wrote and released last July 2011. The lyrics are how I feel and tell the story of how many Vietnam Veterans feel, is it our time now? Now's Our Time!" DannyB

Note: A portion of  the proceeds from "Now's Our Time" go to various nonprofit veterans organizations that assist veterans and their families . . . including the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund's Education Center.

LYRICS

It was a long, long time ago
More than 40 years or so
All the young boys were drafted from their homes
To play the part of a soldier, against those we didn't know

They told us it was for our freedom
We were sent to Vietnam to change that country's fate
So many young lives that were wasted
Written in stone, on a black granite slate
Is now our time, to be recognized
Is now our time

Let's not forget we were never welcomed home
We came back to our country, that didn't back its own
So many years have passed us by
With the memories of that time, we're still asking why
How long will you continue to leave us far behind?
Is now our time, to be recognized
Is it now our time, to be recognized

The question is not if we've won or lost
For all who've returned we still pay the cost
And now soldiers are sent for freedom to defend
And this country has been quick to honor them
And yet again we've been left far behind
But make no mistake, it's not too late, to be recognized

For now's our time
Now's our time, to be recognized

It's now the time for you to take a stand
We fought for honor and duty,
We are your veterans from Vietnam
And we've tried to tell you; don't turn your backs on us again
Never again will our veterans be abandoned
Now's the time, to be recognized
Yeah, now's our time, to be recognized
