T. Gray own words...
"I wrote "Our Mother, Sweet America" following the
recent Boston Marathon tragedy. Every time a senseless
violent event takes place, as a mom and grandmother, I
think of how our own 'Mother Country' must grieve as she
gathers all of us to her heartbeat, assuring us that, no
matter what, she is 'there to love and protect us', and
America will always survive because we have her, and we
have each other!
Living in Nashville, I
volunteered with the Red Cross following a tornado and
the recent flood we had here, and never once did i hear
someone ask another person, "What religion are you? What
political party? What race?" before offering assistance.
No, we Americans roll up our sleeves, get to work, and
do what needs to be done....focusing upon what 'unites'
rather than what 'divides' us. When all is said and
done, we are one 'family', with one 'mom', and our coat
of arms is a glorious red, white, and blue banner.
My song begins with her gentle, loving heartbeat,
which is steady throughout, but make no mistake..."Our
Mother, Sweet America" is still one tough mama!
LYRICS
Don't strike us down...you cannot win.
We're strong and sure...we'll rise again. We are a
nation that's deep and wide. We do not run...we will not
hide.
We may look different, but still we
stand We reach out for each neighbor's hand.
We're bound by colors tried and so tried and true. We all
salute red, white, and blue.
chorus:
Just listen... can you hear it? It's her
everlasting spirit, Tough as nails, soft as love,
Benediction from above. In tragic tribulation,
she's the heartbeat of our nation... Our Mother,
Sweet America.
No matter how the evil
try... Yes, we may bleed...and we may cry. They
never will tear us apart. She holds us all safe
in her heart.
