"After watching the television news of the initial strike on the Twin Towers
on 9/11, and after witnessing the second attack live, I couldn't help but wonder
why anyone would want to do such an unspeakable act?
America has always been
the front runner to lend aid and assistance to countries suffering from natural
disasters, economic distress, and oppression... even for our enemies. We have
protected the very governments that have brazenly spit in her face. She has, for
well over 200 years, been a beacon for freedom-loving people, from all parts of
the world, to come to her shores and enjoy the liberty she has to offer. That is
why it is so hard for me to imagine why anyone in their right minds would try to
destroy her?
America has been the most forgiving country in the world when she
has been wronged, but I know in my heart that she will gather her strength and
courage and stand tall through this assault. She has been wounded, but I am
certain she will rise, and bring all those responsible for this despicable act
to justice.
I began writing My America, not as a song, but as a testimonial of
my feelings, at that moment, and as an expression of my love and devotion to my
beloved country. God bless My America."

LYRICS
She's always first to lend a hand where evil forces breed
But, she's the last to turn away a friend in time of need
Her shoulders bear the burden of the helpless and the weak
That's why I love... My America
Her flag is first in battle for the cause of liberty
Her children die on distant shores, so others may live free
She's suffered more for freedom; still, she turns the other cheek
That's why I love... My America
Her spirit never wavers and her heroes never cease
Her awesome wrath is tethered by her greater love for peace
Her arms embrace the weary, the hopeless, and the meek
That's why I love... My America
With her enduring courage and God's almighty hand
She'll storm the fiery gates of hell and boldly take command
Her victory bells tell all the world, “United, We Still Stand!”
That's why I love... My America
Her spirit never wavers and her heroes never cease
Her awesome wrath is tethered by her greater love for peace
Her arms embrace the weary, the hopeless, and the meek
That's why I love... My America
That's why I love... My America
