These words were spoken by Jesus to underscore a spiritual principle. Abraham Lincoln recognized this truth and our nation went to war to preserve itself. Businesses, families and even our inner souls recognize this truth. Yet in America where freedom of speech and expression abounds it is sometimes difficult to get our hands around this principle.
Now the world is watching us. The terrorists are gauging our response to their barbaric and illuminating tactics. The new Afghan and Iraqi leaders are watching us... the House of America.
The world doesn't question our military capabilities. They question our resolve.
As one Afghan governor recently stated when asked if he believes America had the guts to stay the course, he looked towards some of our soldiers and said, “I know they (the soldiers) have the guts, because I've seen them in action. But I don't know about the future government policies. It could change in a day.”
Think back with me to 9/11...
- Do you remember how you felt, as an American?
- Do you remember our country united together in pain and determination . . . our innocence and security stripped away?
- Do you remember the heroic actions of our fellow Americans on Flight 93? They didn't cower in the face of evil . . . They took the battle to the terrorists, saving countless innocent lives and defending our country. They were the first soldiers in the war on terror.
- Do you remember the politician's, arm in arm, singing patriotic songs? America was singing as one and the world took notice.
Today, it seems to be a different story. I guess since it's an election year . . . it's open season again on ourselves. Spin this, twist that, dance here, run there... but at whose expense?
So the battle has come home again. Aren't we above this!?
America needs to remain united for the sake of our country, the lives of our soldiers and citizens around the world and as the beacon of freedom to the oppressed.
