One of the most inspiring things that has ever happened to me was one day when a friend and me, visited a nursing home in Cape Coral, Florida. I will never forget it.An Elderly man came up to us and said, "Please come to my room. I want to show you something beautiful. The most beautiful thing you have ever seen".
We wondered what could be so beautiful. As we entered his room, he took us to his window, with excitement. He pointed to the outside. With teary eyes, he said, "Look . . . Isn't She beautiful? Isn't she the most lovely thing you have ever seen? I fought for her in World War II. Every morning I wake up to see her. Look . . . There she is, Old Glory . . . flying in the breeze! How beautiful she is. Don't you love her? I do! I fought for her . . . Thank you for coming in."
We were very humbled as we left his room, and proud that he a World War II veteran shared with us his feelings of Our Flag. How sad it would be if one day that flag was to come down, no longer for him to see, as he started his day every morning.
He lived through harm's way in World War II, offering his life so that he and other generations could have the freedom to see her fly in our free land we love so much. So many died for us to continue living here in our wonderful free country.
May we always have the freedom to fly Old Glory in our homes every where in America. Let us follow the example of the veterans and show respect for OUR flag. Let us prevent anyone to make us take it down for any reason.
That veteran wakes up to see the flag he loves so much . . . And I pray he always will be able to see what he feels as the most lovely thing in the world... OLD GLORY!
