Fire Rain country as flag
Death and fire
Nothing but... fire and death
Licking reaching, tongues of flames
The wildfire rages out of control
Acres behind it and homes in its path
Choking smoke filling the air
Nothing alive can stay here
Fire-choppers overhead carrying
Water to dump on the fire
A fire-fighter on the ground
Pauses when he hears the sound
And remembers another time
Another place, another race with death
A time when the choppers spewed bullets
Instead of fire stopping water
And Puff The Magic Dragon
Breathing napalm made his rounds
Bringing fire and death
Nothing but... fire and death

About Author... Faye Sizemore makes her home in the beautiful foothills of South Carolina with Grant, the love of her life, as well as three dogs, two cats, two parakeets and four nanny goats. Grant is a Vietnam Veteran having served with the US Marines in 1968-69 and is, of course, Faye's muse. Faye is deeply interested in Veterans' Affairs and Veterans' Causes. She is very proud of Grant and her poetry is an off-shoot of that pride.
