Trillium Falls Trail Scenic Beauty

April 29, 2024

Trillium Falls Trail is considered by many rangers as as the best little hike in Redwood National and State Parks. This family-friendly, scenic beauty short hike passes old-growth redwoods, maples, trillium flowers, ferns, and huge fir trees along with Trillium Falls, a cascade of smaller waterfalls. Trillium Falls Trail is considered by many rangers as as the best little hike in Redwood National and State Parks. This family-friendly, scenic beauty short hike passes old-growth redwoods, maples, trillium flowers, ferns, and huge fir trees along with Trillium Falls, a cascade of smaller waterfalls ... that starts at Elk Meadow Day Use parking area.

There are some switchbacks and an elevation gain of 200-feet to reach the Trillium Falls that is 1/2 mile from the trailhead and is a great photo stop from the hikers' bridge. It is also a good turn-around point during the 2.7 mile that will climb a few hundred feet again taking the hiker by more old-growth redwoods, past massive "chimney-trees" ... eventually crossing an old logging road.

At this overgrown road, the hiker can cut short the hike half a mile by following the grassy road downhill back to the parking lot. Continuing ahead on the trail, the hiker will see more redwoods with an eventually drop down in elevation. The trail then leads north along the edge of Prairie Creek back to the Elk Meadow Day Use parking area.

Redwood National and State Parks (RNSP) reside in the North Coast of California and Oregon. The North Coast is a loosely defined region from about Ukiah, California inland and Fort Bragg, California on the coast, extending to Josephine County in Oregon. When travelling on Highway 101 south to north, you'll notice a distinct change in vegetation from California oak woodlands to the Douglas-fir/coast redwood forests and a very moist climate. The ancient coast redwood ecosystem preserved in the parks contains some of the planet's most majestic forests.
